Getting more into Twitter

While I was on my press trip to Belgium I had a long talk with a colleague about the best way to use Twitter. I've been neglecting my Twitter account a bit but now I'm going to devote some more time to it. I focus on travel, history, archaeology, and the Horn of Africa. Since today is Travel Tuesday, this is a good time to get serious about it. Feel free to check it out.

A warning, though. Like with blogs, I only follow accounts I'm actually interested in. I don't play the "follow me and I'll follow you" game. All that does is inflate numbers to no purpose.

In other news, Michael over at 28mm Victorian Warfare gave me a nice review of The Scavenger. Always nice to hear someone likes my books! Michael has a cool military modelling blog where he shows off everything from elephants to 3D photos of the Boer War.

If you're Tweeting about history and travel on a regular basis, you'll probably gain a lot of followers.

I've been hovering around 1400 for a while now. I'm hoping to up that with more regular tweeting.

Congrats on the number of followers. I only have 900 and most of them only want to sell me their books! :-)

But as Alex says, your subject matter will attract like minds. Best of luck.

Roland: Yeah, that's annoying. Also annoying is when people (generally indie authors) keep unfollowing and refollowing you to attract your attention. If you follow them, they unfollow you. It's all about the numbers for them. A lot of indie authors really need to act more professionally.

Looking for more from Sean McLachlan? He also hangs out on the Civil War Horror blog, where he focuses on Civil War and Wild West history.

You can also find him on his Twitter feed and Facebook page.
